With the Vickers’ Foundational Level – PSW course, there is a paid 70 hour on-the-job component, which the Student would do during their employment with a Special Care Home or Home Care Agency.

Here is the link for all the government approved Special Care Homes (SCH) in New Brunswick; just click the name of the Region you are interested in working, and all the Special Care Homes in that Region will be listed with the the Owner’s name, address, number of beds, and the Annual Inspections done by the Department of Social Development in the previous years.

A) If you’re not able to get a job by contacting these Homes, I could consider doing an Individualized Training Contract with you that leaves out the on-the-job training component, stipulating that you had completed the theory part of the course, and the workshops.

B) You wouldn’t get your certificate until you had obtained employment with a Special Care Home, or Home Support Agency and completed the 70 hours of on-the-job training, and your supervisor had read the feedback emails about each of your 5 tests.

You would get an Enrollment Verification Letter from Vickers explaining where you are in the course and what you have left to complete,

C) This option would increase your chance of obtaining employment because you could have on your Resume that you are enrolled in the Vickers’ course,

D) Vickers is willing to help you with your Resume to make it stand out to the Special Care Home and Agency employers.

I would recommend you get your First Aid and CPR course, (https://www.lifestarttraining.com), and your Food Safety certificate, before you start applying to Special Care Homes, because those are two qualifications you need to work in a Home.  (Food Safety Trainers’ list).

I think the first aid course is close to $120, and the Food Safety one is around $30.

These two certificates will catch the eye of the Home Owner or Manager, and show them you are serious about working in this industry.

There is a shortage of workers in this field, so it will make the employer think, “If I don’t get her, some other Home will.
